William Tyndale was born in Gloucestershire in 1494. He started translating the Bible into English in the 1520s but had to complete it in Europe due to opposition from the authorities. His pioneering work resulted in an English translation of the New Testament and a large part of the Old Testament. Though he was martyred in 1536 his life-work formed a large part of the Authorised and Revised versions of the Bible.
Other The Reformation lectures:
Luther, Cranmer, Calvin, Field and Hooker.
