'Incitement to
religious hatred'

The Daniel Scot case

A Pakistani Christian pastor in Australia has been unfairly convicted under the state of Victoria's 'religious hatred' laws.

An Australian court found Pastor Daniel Scot 'guilty' of religious vilification after he criticised Islam in a church seminar.

The law in the Australian state of Victoria is less draconian than that proposed by the British Government which wants to create a new 'incitement to religious hatred' offence.

Daniel Scot's case shows how 'religious hatred' laws can damage free speech and provoke religious groups to litigate against each other.
