The Da Vinci Code

Christians speak out

As The Da Vinci Code is shown in cinemas around the country Christians are speaking out against the film. It seeks to undermine the historical truth of the Bible - particularly its account of Jesus' death & resurrection and his deity.

Telling truth from falsehood

Ian Garrett, of Jesmond Parish Church in Newcastle upon Tyne, says:

"The Da Vinci Code presents a breathtakingly misleading account of how and when the Bible was written - the result being to cast doubt on Jesus' claim to be God. Dan Brown claims that the theory about Jesus which he has woven into his novel is based on 'fact', but his 'facts' are demonstrably false at every crucial point.

"While Dan Brown's characters accuse the Church of re-writing history in a one-sided way, it's actually The Da Vinci Code that does that - by implying that a discredited theory about Jesus is 'fact', and by dismissing the evidence of the Bible with hardly a mention."
