The Government plans to change the law on the registration of births, deaths and marriages.

It proposes to scrap marriage certificates, scrap the legal content of marriage declarations and permit novelty and fantasy weddings. It also wants to phase out birth certificates and death certificates.

A consultation on the plans ended on Friday 24 October.
